* You will note a discrepancy in the daily recommended values for sodium between this site and the HFS/Health Canada values (1500 mg vs 2300 mg). The Canadian Stroke Network is recommending the ideal values, while the HSF current recommendation (less than 2300 mg/day for adults; general population and less than 1500 mg.day for people with high blood pressure) is in line with Health Canada current recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide. However, in this case less is definitely better: all Canadians should look to reduce their sodium consumption. By 2020 the recommended target daily consumption of sodium will be 1200 – 1500 mg/day (1/2 tsp)
