Sodium 101 www.sodium101.ca *

* You will note a discrepancy in the daily recommended values for sodium between this site and the HSF/Health Canada values (1500 mg vs 2300 mg).  The Canadian Stroke Network is recommending the ideal values, while the HSF current recommendation (less than 2300 mg/day for adults; general population and less than 1500 mg/day for people with high blood pressure)  is in line with Health Canada current recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide.  However, in this case less is definitely better: all Canadians should look to reduce their sodium consumption. By 2020 the recommended target daily consumption of sodium will be 1200 – 1500 mg/day (1/2 tsp)
